Authenticity & Collecting Guide

Our Commitment to Authentic Products

Zakka House is committed to selling authentic products.

We understand that authenticity is one of the most important considerations when purchasing designer toys, Japanese character goods, artist collaborations and art collectibles.

Products offered by Zakka House are sourced through channels that may include established distributors, recognised suppliers, brands, galleries, authorised retailers and reputable professional-market sources.

We do not knowingly sell counterfeit products.

How We Assess Authenticity

The authentication process depends on the type of product. Relevant indicators may include:

  • Supplier and purchase history

  • Manufacturer or brand packaging

  • Product labels and copyright markings

  • Barcodes, JAN codes, SKUs or product numbers

  • Edition markings or serial numbers

  • Certificates or documentation, where issued

  • Materials, construction and production quality

  • Comparison with verified product references

  • Provenance information for higher-value items

Not every genuine product includes a certificate of authenticity. Many character goods and mass-produced designer toys are authenticated primarily through their sourcing, packaging, labels and manufacturer markings.

A missing certificate does not automatically mean that an item is not genuine, particularly where the manufacturer did not originally issue one.

Official, Licensed and Authentic Are Different Terms

These words are often used interchangeably, but they do not always mean the same thing.

Authentic means the product is represented as a genuine item rather than a counterfeit.

Licensed generally means the product was produced with permission from the relevant intellectual-property owner.

Official retailer or authorised dealer describes a specific commercial relationship between a seller and a brand or distributor.

Zakka House only uses claims such as “authorised dealer” or “official retailer” when the relevant relationship can be supported. The fact that a product is authentic does not necessarily mean every retailer selling it is an officially appointed dealer.

Product Condition

Unless otherwise stated, products are sold in new condition.

Collectible packaging may occasionally show minor factory, shipping or storage imperfections. This can include light surface marks, small dents, creases, uneven wrapping or minor variation in printing.

For collectors who consider packaging condition especially important, we recommend contacting us before purchase. Where practical, we can provide additional photographs or condition information for the specific item.

Significant condition issues known to us will be disclosed on the product page.

Packaging and Documentation

The contents included with a product vary by release.

Depending on the item, this may include:

  • Original branded box

  • Inner packaging

  • Product card

  • Certificate of authenticity

  • Edition card

  • Instruction sheet

  • Manufacturer label

  • Hologram or verification marker

Only items specifically described as included should be assumed to form part of the purchase.

Stock images may be used on some product pages. Packaging design and minor product details may vary between production runs or regions.

Collectible Value

We select products based on design, cultural relevance, craftsmanship, creator significance, display quality and their place within a wider collecting context.

However, collectible value is subjective and can change over time.

A product’s future resale value may be affected by:

  • Artist or brand demand

  • Edition size

  • Release region

  • Product condition

  • Packaging condition

  • Market supply

  • Cultural relevance

  • Subsequent reissues

  • Changes in collector interest

Zakka House does not guarantee that a product will increase in value, maintain its original purchase price or achieve a particular resale result.

Collectibles should not be purchased solely on the assumption that they will produce a financial return.

Limited Editions and Scarcity

Terms such as “limited edition,” “exclusive” or “region-exclusive” are only used where supported by information available from the brand, manufacturer, artist, gallery or supplier.

A limited product is not automatically rare in the resale market. Similarly, an open-edition product may still be culturally significant or desirable.

Where an edition number or production quantity has not been verified, we will not present an estimated quantity as fact.

Preowned, Vintage and Secondary-Market Items

Where Zakka House offers a preowned, vintage or secondary-market item, this will be disclosed on the product page.

These products may require a different assessment process from newly released retail products. Relevant information may include previous ownership, condition, packaging, documentation and known provenance.

Any restoration, replacement packaging or material alteration known to us will be stated where relevant.

Authenticity Concerns

Please contact us promptly if you have a reasonable concern about the authenticity of a product purchased from Zakka House.

Include:

  • Your order number

  • Clear photographs of the product

  • Photographs of the packaging and labels

  • The specific reason for your concern

  • Any external evidence you would like us to review

We will assess the information against our sourcing records and available product references.

Claims based solely on differences commonly associated with production variation, regional packaging or different manufacturing batches may require further investigation and do not by themselves establish that a product is counterfeit.

Buy With Confidence, Collect With Perspective

Our goal is to help customers make informed decisions.

We believe a worthwhile collection is not defined only by rarity, resale prices or online popularity. It can also be built around personal meaning, artistic interest, design quality and the relationship between an object and the space in which it lives.

Authenticity provides the foundation. Thoughtful selection gives the collection its identity.
